Fire Extinguishers are a crucial part of keeping any jobsite and/or building/structure safe. When someone is around to use them, they keep small fires from getting out of control and help to minimize the damage.
There are fire extinguishers for most every type of fire:
- Class A: Solid materials like wood, paper, plastic, or clothing
- Class B: Flammable liquids like oil, alcohol, or gasoline
- Class C: Involves a source of electricity
- Class K: Cooking oils such as vegetable oil or animal fats
Cosmic Extinguishers – Multi Purpose Chemical
Class A, B, C Fires
These units contain specially fluidized and siliconized mono ammonium phosphate powder, which smothers and breaks the chain reaction on Class B fires, fuses and insulates Class A fires, and is a non-conductor of electricity. Non-toxic.
UL Ratings 2A:10BC and 3A:40BC are both acceptable for use in California. The 3A:40BC is the industry standard, while 2A:10BC is most popular in the Western U.S. – particularly in California.
Capacity: 2-1/2, 5, 6, 10, 20 lbs
Galaxy Extinguishers – Regular Dry Chemical
Class B, C Fires
These models contain a siliconized sodium bicarbonate base, the traditional dry chemical. Cleanup after use is generally easy, because the chemical does not normally bake to a hot metal surface. Non-toxic.
Capacity: 2-1/2, 5, 5-1/2, 6, 10, 20 lbs.
Saturn Extinguishers – Class K Wet Chemical
CLASS K Fires: 1-A:K or 2-A:K Available
These units are ideal for commercial restaurant applications as a portable supplement to pre-engineered suppression systems. A low “pH” potassium acetate and potassium citrate solution is discharged in a fine mist that provides excellent range while cooling the fire and preventing splashing of liquid cooking media fires.
Capacity: 6 liter (1.8 gallon), 2.-1/2 gallon
Mercury Extinguishers – Halotron Agent
CLASS A,B,C Fires
This model contains the clean extinguishing agent Halotron® 1, which is EPA-approved, government-accepted and specified. This agent discharges as a liquid, then quickly evaporates, leaving no residue to clean up afterwards. U.S. FAA-approved for use in airports. NFPA-10 rating. Electrically non-conductive.
Capacity: 2-1/2, 5, 11, 15-1/2 lbs.
Sentinel Extinguishers- Carbon Dioxide
CLASS B,C Fires
This extinguisher contains liquid carbon dioxide under pressure.
Capacity: 5, 10, 15, 20 lbs.
Grenadier Extinguishers – Pressurized Water
CLASS A Fires
Pressurized Water Extinguishers for Class “A” Fires
The “water press” extinguisher contains water and compressed air. Units shipped empty.
Capacity: 2-1/2 gallon
Nebula Extinguishers – Water Mist
Class A,C Fires
The water mist extinguisher is ideal for Class A fires where a potential Class C (electrical) hazard exists. Available in 1.75 Gallon (Model 270) or 2.5 Gallon (Model 272) sizes.
Capacity: 1 3/4 or 2-1/2 gallons of non-toxic, de-ionized water. Unit is shipped empty.
Purple K Extinguishers – Dry Chemical Agent
CLASS B & C Fires
PURPLE K is a high performance extinguishing agent most effective for dealing with flammable liquid fires.
Typical Uses: for flammable liquid hazards in public areas such as offices, classrooms, churches, garages, service bays, boats, vehicles, fuel storage and transfer areas. The Purple K extinguisher is not recommended for use on sensitive electronic equipment.
Extinguishant: Specially fluidized and siliconized potassium bicarbonate dry chemical agent.
Rated for use on “B”, and “C” class fires. Most effective dry chemical agent for Class B fires.
